Tramadol for Back Pain
Tramadol is most commonly prescribed under the brand name Ultram for the management of severe, acute or chronic back pain. It is most usually prescribed in pill form and great care should be exercised with its use. Intravenous use is not as effective as morphine.
Warnings on Tramadol for Back Pain
Because Tramadol is prescribed to patients already suffering more serious levels of pain, the instantaneous relief from that pain can become very addictive. The research studies show that, despite its effectiveness, Tramadol should not be used over a sustained period of time. If action is not taken to protect patients from physical and psychological addiction, there are significant patient management problems to address. Simply cutting off the supply of a powerful drug of an opiate type can be dangerous. It is therefore necessary to slowly wean the patient off the medication and follow up with rehabilitation treatment. |
